MITRE ATT&CK Compliance and Improvement Services

The MITRE ATT&CK Framework is a globally recognized knowledge base of cyber adversary behaviors, techniques, and tactics. Our MITRE ATT&CK Framework Services help organizations understand, detect, and defend against advanced threats using this structured approach.

1. Threat Prioritization and Modeling

Services help organizations move beyond generic risk management by focusing on the threats most relevant to them.

  • Adversary Mapping: Consultants analyze industry-specific threat intelligence and internal incident data to identify the specific Threat Groups (e.g., APTs) that pose the greatest risk. They then map the TTPs of those groups to the ATT&CK Matrix.

  • Threat Modeling: The service designs adversary emulation scenarios that simulate the full attack chain of a prioritized threat group, providing a realistic test of defenses. This ensures security investments are prioritized against known, active threats rather than theoretical vulnerabilities.

2. Defensive Gap Analysis and Coverage Assessment

This is the most common use of ATT&CK services, determining where an organization can and cannot detect an attack.

  • Detection Mapping: Security tools (like SIEM, EDR, and firewalls) and their detection rules are systematically mapped to specific ATT&CK Techniques. The consultant can then generate a visual heat map of the organization’s detection coverage.

  • Visibility Assessment: The service evaluates whether the necessary data sources (e.g., Windows Event Logs, PowerShell logs, network flows) are being collected, parsed, and logged correctly to enable detection for specific techniques. Gaps in data collection are often a critical finding.

  • Security Control Engineering: Recommendations are provided to tune existing security controls or write new, behavior-based detection rules within the SIEM or EDR, specifically targeting undocumented or low-coverage techniques.

3. Red Teaming and Adversary Emulation

These services utilize the framework to execute highly realistic, targeted attack simulations.

  • Emulation Plan Creation: The Red Team uses the TTPs of a known threat actor group (mapped in the framework) to build a step-by-step attack plan. This is more focused than a standard penetration test.

  • Testing and Validation: The Red Team executes the plan, and the Blue Team (defenders) attempts to detect and respond. The framework provides the common language to evaluate the results, determining exactly at which Technique ID the defense failed or succeeded.

4. Incident Response and Threat Hunting

ATT&CK provides the structure for effective security operations.

  • Incident Investigation: During a breach, the framework helps Incident Response teams quickly classify and trace the attacker’s actions. Instead of simply saying “lateral movement,” analysts can pinpoint the exact Technique ID used (e.g., T1021.001, Remote Desktop Protocol) to accelerate containment and remediation.

  • Threat Hunting: Services establish proactive threat hunting procedures based on low-and-slow techniques that often go undetected. Analysts search for evidence of specific, known adversary behaviors within their logs, instead of just chasing alerts.

By focusing on TTPs, MITRE ATT&CK services transform cybersecurity from a compliance exercise into a verifiable, behavioral defense program.
